I am in awe, I guess I really never realized the brutality of this Family, the hatred and grudge holding, the killing of each other off. This is an excellent movie, and I can hardly wait for part 3 tonight. Seems both sides were terribly wrong, and just could not see eye to eye. The music is so beautiful and I give a standing ovation to you Kevin, to have the gift that you have as an Actor, director, musician and for the human being you are. You are truely a gift to the world, and I will cherish you forever.
I remember watching a series about the Hatfields and McCoys when I was a kid, with my dad. I was so intrigued, way back then, about the hatred, family loyaltly, passion these 2 families possessed. Watching the story as a girl is one of my fondest memories of time spent with my dad. Perhaps that was when I learned to love western movies, folk music, etc. (although my dad’s family played, now my own kids play and perform). Love the series, love the music!! A really great movie soundtrack is, in my opinion, one of the best things to chill out with. I’ll be adding this to my collection. Thanks Modern West. Hope to catch you live one day.
I enjoyed watching “Hatfields & McCoys”… I especially liked the actors chosen for the roles & how it was delivered, finally a movie where you could actually “hear” the dialogue & not have it drowned out with background music; Though I enjoyed it up to the ‘What Happened To’ part in which by the time you looked at the photo, read the names & dates the what happened to was shared in such a short time I had to reverse play to catch it all. May I suggest to the editing to please leave info up long enough to read it when photos are being shared as they are of interest as well.
I found “The Battle at Grapevine” scene a bit funny for the time in which hunting & being a good shot was what put food on the table & was highlighted as such in the hunting scenes, then during the battle they all looked like a bunch of misfits… a chuckle moment there!
In all I applaud the series… Thank you History ch.
*And to Kevin, I love everything you’ve been in during your career & another thumbs up to you & Modern West! ~♥~db
…. Have you read the book “One Mans War” ?… It’s a true story about Jack Hinson a Union sympathizer who lived on his plantation at Land Between The Lakes during the Civil War, it could be made in to a movie-series… Just a suggestion!
A truly epic, historical western! The details made you feel everything from the location in Romania to the authentic dialect of “Pikeville.” It’s been too long since we’ve had another good western with a strong ensemble of actors. Can you say EMMYS?!
I absolutely enjoyed the series and now I was hoping for a weekly show. The actors and acting was superb, realistic and Kevin, I do believe that your the Modern cowboy of our generation.I’m sure Robert Duvall won’t mind.lol Keep in this genre, it suits you well.Keep the music and the films rolling:-)
ANGELS COME DOWN……………….WOW>>>>>>>>>>WOW>>>>>>>>>what a POWERFUL SONG!! Great MiniSeries as well!! I share in your passion in our awesome, wonderful, horrible, bloody, scary, beautiful past…..what a ride it has been!!! Am SO GLAD to say I am an AMERICAN,,,,,,,,,,even now, or maybe especially now. With our countries present politically divided country, both the song ANGELS COME DOWN and the MINISERIES serve as a reminder of both what CAN happen and what DID happen when differences are allowed to fester….
I totally enjoy the results of your interest in our past…..remember watching DANCES WITH WOLVES at its release in Montana, never forget listening to some of the Blackfeet who were in your movie as they were pointing themselves out on screen,,,,,,,SILVERADO………..loved your two gun outfit…….OPEN RANGE……..You and Robert Duvall,,,,enuf said…….walked past you in Deadwood one nite, you nodded, I nodded back,,,,,wanted to stop and talk with you but you looked like you were on a mission……..
Anyway, look forward to seeing your band and you in Montana sometime……watch yore top knot………………………………….
Loved the Hatfields and McCoys, want an intense, brutal look at the reality of this historical family feud. Kevin you did it all! Actor, director, music….now please, get cleaned up, shave, brush off the blood and dust, and get us a new romantic comedy….soon! PLEASE!
I so enjoyed this whole experience. The series was awesome, and awe inspiring all at the same time, and I love everything that Kevin Costner did in this show, as well as everyone else. It was well done, and thought provoking. So much so that I’ve gone online, like about 50 thousand others, and searched for the real truth and I want to say, for this only being a 6 hour mini series, you guys are SPOT ON. You portrayed everything beautiful, romantic, gut wrenching, all at the same time and stirred emotions. Keep up the great work. I’ve now got the album, which I might say is also AWESOME and takes you back in time, which is what I do believe Kevin and the band intended to do. Thank you for that. Great performance from everyone, and great story. I can’t say enough about all of you. Bless you all. Well done!
Watching the Hatfield’s and McCoys with my children reminded me of how much I enjoyed watching Lonesome Dove with my family as a child. What a great history lesson! We enjoyed it very much. 🙂
Flipping amazing! Love that backwoods outlaw sound, it’s been too long since someone has released an album like this. It’s a better twist of some of Hank III’s style, but an incredible Country/Bluegrass album, by far one of the best CD’s I’ve bought in several years!
I loved the movie, I’m from WV and I was wondering why the movie was made in Romania? Even so, the scenery was breathtaking. And I like seeing Mare Winningham in your movies. Please come to Columbus Ohio!
I took three lady’s to see you in Concho Ok. on the 19th and have some mixed feelings. The show was ok. Their was sometime that you could not understand what you was saying because the speaker backfeed over the mic. Another was that my wife wished she could purchased a picture. (could of had you signed it. would have been great)My wife is a very big fan that is why I took wife and her two other girl friends. Was going be buy 5 shirts and only had small and medium Black. Was told it almost the end of the tour and this is all they had left. The show that you have been involved in have been no less than Great. You are a true, and great actor, Keep up the great work. Thanks for all you do.
I grew up in these hills. i am lucky to be of the age where i was able to hear from those of that era. My ancestors were violent and people of honor and if violated that honor or unwriten code bad things would hapen.
Congrats Kevin for winning the Emmy, you are the “Cream of the Crop.” Best Actor, best Director, thank-you for all the wonderful films, you make this world a better place.
